Our Story.
Together as musicians, producers, and songwriters, Angus and Julia Stone form two halves of a musical act whose words and sounds reveal a pure and genuine love formusic and a talent for telling beautiful stories. Stories that have taken them all over the world and back again.
Music has continued to play an essential role in their lives over the years, as they’ve established a prominent career in the international music world. From their origins in childhood, then moving to London just out of school with their first record deal, to two years in LA working with the ineffable Rick Rubin, to Paris, Berlin, Egypt, and New York, to building a studio in the hinterlands of NSW. Throughout their journey, the duohave consistently regarded their music as a personal discovery and outlet for their thoughts and observations.
They are excited and humbled to on occasion, open up this space to other creatives, offering an inspiring environment for creative endeavours.
The Vibe.
To enter, you have to board a plane. It’s a vintage Cessna called Susie Q, and its interior is decked out with crushed red velvet. It only flies to one place: an old sugarcane farm in the middle of nowhere, at the centre of which is a grand old manor, a time capsule filled with arcane treasures from across the world. Step in and relax; sit down, have a drink, remember all the memories you thought you’d forgotten from your past – and imagine the roads you might take from there.
Albums.
Kimosabè is a divine, open-armed, open-ended universe. It’s the first Dope Lemon album that reveals the face of Stone, the project’s impresario himself, on the album’s cover, because “this record is everything that’s me.” “In the past, the artwork has been real anonymous, in a way, because I was trying to explore these styles, and having this shield in front of me was beautiful – I could sort of slink around in the shadows and wouldn’t have the public make judgement on the person behind it,” Stone says. “This record, I had moments of clarity reflecting on my childhood and I was able to see where I want to be in the future. Putting myself on the cover just felt right.”

This album, 'Cape Forestier,' is like a storybook from the hearts and minds of Angus and Julia Stone – reminiscent of their earlier records, with each song revealing itself as a different page. The songs move from love stories like ‘Little Alaskan Anchor’ or the soaring 'Somehow,' a burning tale of unrequited love, to songs like 'Down to The Sea' that explore a unique view of society and what goes on around us. Together, the tracks on 'Cape Forestier' are strikingly poignant and textured recordings that immediately draw listeners into the simple and endearing vision of Angus and Julia Stone's world.
